Cost of facelift (rhytidectomy) in India

The cost of facelift in India is USD 2500-3200.

The cost of facelift within India varies drastically depending upon:

Choice of Hospital

The choice of hospital can lead to a great variation in the cost. There is an extreme variation of the cost when we go from an economy hospital to a premium hospital. The cost mainly rises in premium hospitals due to the higher room rent, cost for medical care, etc. The quality of healthcare remains the same in both cases.

Choice of City

The choice of city in which the hospital is situated play a major role in the total cost. The cost of food, accommodation, and transportation are much higher in Tier 1 cities. Hospitals in metro cities also charge higher. So you can choose a hospital in Tier 2 cities for a cheaper but quality healthcare.

What is facelift?

Facelift is a cosmetic surgery to remove signs of aging in your face and neck, and eventually, make you look younger. The procedure mainly removes saggy skin in the face and other changes to the skin that happens with age. Maybe excess loose skin from the neck is also required and is called necklift (platysmaplasty). For best results, some other procedures may also need to be done, such as liposuction, eyelid surgery, autologous fat injection, etc.

The effects usually last for 10 years approximately. It involves comparatively less pain and discomfort.

Why is facelift done?

It is basically done to make a person look younger. The loose skin which lost elasticity and accumulation of fat in the face can be removed by facelift. People may do facelift for the following reasons:

  • Sagging cheeks
  • Double chin or sagging skin on the chin
  • Irregularities of the skin near the nose and the mouth
  • Fat accumulation and sagging skin in the neck (necklift)

Pre-procedure

  • Consult a doctor for a physical examination. He will look into your medical history and the medications you are on.
  • You will need to get a blood test and sometimes a chest X-ray.
  • A facial examination will be required. The surgeon will look for the issues that need to be corrected. He will take pictures of your face from different angles. He will also study the bone structure, fat distribution, shape of the face, etc.
  • He will ask about your expectations after the procedure and he will tell what could be the possible outcome.
  • Blood-thinning medications should be stopped 2 weeks prior to the surgery.
  • You must stop smoking prior to the procedure.
  • The surgeon will prescribe certain ointments, which you should apply to your face.

Procedure

  • General or local anesthesia may be given depending on the difficulty of the procedure.
  • The blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and heart rate is constantly monitored.
  • The incision depends on the type of procedure. For the traditional facelift, an incision is made in the hairline near the temples. The incision goes in front of the ear, down in front of the earlobe, then back to the lower scalp behind the ear. The surgeon will remove the excess fat, and the muscles and connective tissues are redistributed. This helps in minimal sagging skin.
  • A limited incision is used for a ‘mini facelift’ where minimal skin needs treatment.
  • A necklift needs an incision just at the skin. The surgeon removes the excess fat and does necessary things for your neck to look normal.
  • The incisions are usually sutured using dissolvable sutures or skin glue. The incisions blend with your hairline and skin over time.
  • You will probably have a drainage tube on your face and bandages wrapped around it.

Post-procedure

  • You may or may not have pain or bruising after the procedure. It is quite normal and the surgeon will prescribe painkillers if required.
  • The surgeon will give instructions to remove any dressing or drainages present during the follow-up.
  • The swelling takes a few days to a few weeks to go away. The skin will completely heal and will be back to normal in a few months. You will be able to see the changes then.
  • You should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for at least 2 weeks.
  • You should moisturize your skin and stay away from the sun for the best results.

FAQ

At what age should I consider doing facelift?

You are a  good candidate for a facelift if you are in overall good health and have enough excess skin or sagging in the face and neck to make the operation beneficial. The average facelift patients are in their 40’s to 60’s, but a facelift can be successfully done on people in their 70’s or 80’s, as well.

How many years old will I look younger after facelift?

It varies from person to person.  Factors such as bone structure, heredity, skin texture, sun exposure, smoking history, and others all play a role in the extent of improvement one obtains, as well as influencing how long it will last.

Will facelift remove the lines near the eyes and forehead?

The facelift does not alter the appearance of the upper third of the face, in particular the excess skin and lines around the eyes, nor does it help to sag of the brow. If you are concerned about the appearance of your eyes or brow, a brow lift or eyelid surgery may be right for you.

Will my face be numb after the procedure?

After your facelift procedure, some numbness of the skin in the cheek area and neck is quite normal. The feeling will usually return in 1-2 months.
