Cost of tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) in India

The cost of tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) in India is USD2800-3200.

The cost of abdominoplasty within India varies drastically based on:

Choice of Hospital

The choice of hospital can lead to a great variation in the cost. There is an extreme variation of the cost when we go from an economy hospital to a premium hospital. The cost mainly rises in premium hospitals due to the higher room rent, cost for medical care, etc. The quality of healthcare remains the same in both cases.

Choice of City

The choice of city in which the hospital is situated plays a major role in the total cost. The cost of food, accommodation, and transportation are much higher in Tier 1 cities. Hospitals in metro cities also charge higher. So you can choose a hospital in Tier 2 cities for a cheaper but quality healthcare.

What is tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)?

Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that improves the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat. The connective tissue is usually tightened and the skin is repositioned to get a more toned look.

Why is tummy tuck done?

Tummy tuck is done for excess sagging skin, weak connective tissue, and poor elasticity of the skin which could happen due to various reasons:

  • Weight changes
  • Pregnancy
  • Natural body nature
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Aging

Who is a good candidate for tummy tuck?

Both men and women who are in good health are good candidates for a tummy tuck. Women who had a pregnancy and now have loose skin are good candidates. A tummy tuck is a good option if you were once obese and fat deposits are present around your abdomen.

Who should not do tummy tuck?

  • If you are a woman planning to get pregnant in the future, then tummy tuck should not be done. You can perform it after your delivery after consulting your doctor.
  • It should not be done as a way to lose weight. You should only consider doing tummy tuck if all other means have failed.

Pre-procedure

  • Consult a doctor with your medical history and he will do a physical examination.
  • He will look into your medical history and tell whether you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck.
  • You should stop taking certain medications a few weeks prior to the procedure.
  • Quit smoking and drinking a few weeks prior to the procedure.
  • Discuss with him your expectations and he will explain the risks involved.

Procedure

  • You will be given general anesthesia.
  • Your blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels are constantly monitored.
  • The surgeon makes the incision based on your requirements. The type of procedure depends on the amount of change you require.

Complete abdominoplasty

The incision is made horizontally from hipbone to hipbone. This is a complicated procedure and the surgeon removes and contours skin and tissues. The connective tissue (fascia) is tightened using permanent sutures. The position of your bellybutton is also changed during the procedure. There could be drainage tubes kept in place for a few days.

Partial abdominoplasty

This is a smaller procedure as the name suggests. This is done for patients who have fat deposition below the bellybutton. A smaller incision is made the fat is removed. Liposuction is sometimes used. The skin is contoured and fascia is tightened. The position of the bellybutton need not be changed. You will probably not have drainage tubes.

Post-procedure care

  • You will probably wake up in the recovery room and will have to stay there until your anesthesia wears off.
  • Your doctor will prescribe painkillers and antibiotics.
  • You will need to take extra care to prevent any infection to the incisions.
  • Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities for a few weeks.
